The Winter of the Witch
Okay, so I just finished Katherine Arden's The Winter of the Witch and it honestly broke my heart. Several times. You don't find writing like this very often. I was so excited to keep reading but also so sad to see the pages flipping by so quickly.
I have been looking forward to this book since I finished The Bear and the Nightingale. I say that because I really wanted to know how Katherine Arden would wrap up such an amazing story and I felt confident that she would do it in a beautiful, lyrical, and heart-wrenching way. Katherine Arden wrote just that book. The Winter of the Witch is honestly one of the best books I've ever read. I absolutely love this trilogy and this book was a fantastic and satisfying conclusion. It was also an emotional rollercoaster. Beloved characters from The Bear and the Nightingale and The Girl in the Tower return, but new faces appear too. All the characters got a new layer of depth that just made the story more compelling. And boy oh boy that Morozko though... I loved the new places visited in this book. Katherine Arden has a way of painting a magical picture with her words that not only delights but also fascinates. Honestly, I'd say if you could only read one series for the next decade you should choose this one. Now to start my re-read of the series. 5/5 Stars- I would give more if I could.
